Last night in the FA Cup, West Ham United defeated Brentford 5-3 on penalties after a thrilling showdown between the two teams, which resulted in a 2-2 draw. The match was played at the iconic London Stadium in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The match was filled with every aspect of football, including goals, penalties, extra time, and an intense shootout. Jarrod Bowen scored twice for West Ham, while Igor Thiago scored multiple goals for Brentford to force extra time. Eventually, West Ham controlled their composure in the penalty round and booked their ticket for the quarter finals by showing their precision. 

This victory was the West Ham was very iconic because now they have to move forward and face Leeds United in the second round of the competition. 

Fast-paced start

 West Ham started the game with aggression and confidence, creating pressure on the opposition from the very beginning. In the 19th minute of the game, the star player Jarrod Bowen found a breakthrough for the team by scoring an open goal. 

The move started from the corner cake that Brentford failed to clear properly. The ball fell free inside the penalty area, where Bowen reacted quickly and finished the job with precision to get a lead of 1-0 for the Hammers. 

However, the celebrations didn't last long because Brentford immediately responded. Just after 8 minutes, striker Igor Thiago equalized the scores by scoring a brilliant goal. The Brazilian player continued his excellent scoring by finishing calmly into the goal net to make the score 1-1 for all. 

Restoring the lead for West Ham

The momentum of West Ham allowed them to seize control of the game later in the first half.

In the 34th minute of the game, Brentford fielder Michael Kayode committed a foul on Adama Traore inside the penalty area. The foul was immediately pointed out by the match referee for a penalty spot.

The penalty is captain Jarrod Bowen stepped in and took the short and tricked the goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher the wrong way to restore the lead for West Ham, making the score card running by 2-1. 

The goal was essential for West Ham to take advantage before going into the halftime and carry forward the momentum for their team. The first half of the match was very entertaining and full of intense moments. 

Dedication of Brentford 

The second half started with the sheer determination of Brentford when the push forward in search of another equalizer. The visitors showed strong determination and created multiple attacking opportunities that eventually built pressure on West Ham.

The constant pressure on West Ham and the determination of Brentford paid off in the 82nd minute of the game when Brentford was awarded a penalty. The foul came after Crysencio Summerville brought down Michael Kayode inside the box. 

Igor ThaogoWas selected by the team to take the penalty. He played confidently and scored the goal to make the score 2-2, forcing the game to go into extra time. 

Intensity in the extra time 

In the extra time, both teams shows there attacking Strategies and both head their chances; however, neither side managed to find a winning goal.

West Ham substitute Callum Wilson came very close to scoring a goal when he fired a strong shot toward the goal.  however the defense from Brentford was solid, and the goalkeeper produced a brilliant save to keep the score level.

Since no goal was recorded in the additional 30 minutes of the game, the match moves into a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

The penalty for the shootout was decisive, and West Ham showcased their composure under pressure. 

Brentford's big mistake came when winger Dango Ouattara made a Blender while attempting a risky Panenka-style penalty. The penalty was effortlessly saved by West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, giving the home side a major advantage. 

West Ham successfully converted all the penalties, and at the end of the Shootout the score was 5-3, which is a satisfying victory for West Ham.

This victory is a very big moment for West Ham, who have struggled in the Premier League this season and are currently struggling to avoid relegation. With this FA cup run, the team can get hope and confidence to prepare for the upcoming league matches.

For Brentford, this loss ends there as a cup campaign this season. Despite showing determination and fighting back twice in the same game, the missed penalty proved very costly for them.

West Ham will now prepare for the quarter finals, where they have to face Leeds United to keep their dreams alive of reaching Wembley Stadium.
